 CHRISSIE HORTON
MSc Counselling Psychology
Counsellor & Psychotherapist
I’m
a counsellor and psychotherapist living in the Aude department of
Languedoc-Roussillon. I am Person-Centred Integrative in my practice and
hold a post-grad Diploma in Counselling, with distinction, and an MSc in
Counselling Psychology from Keele University.
I
have also taught counselling at University and Further Ed levels and
have provided supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors. I have a
Certificate in Counselling Supervision and am accredited by the British
Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). My counselling and
psychotherapeutic work are in line with the BACP Guidelines for Ethical
Practice and I have regular supervision to ensure that I stay fit to
practice.
Before coming to live in France, I worked for ten years as a counsellor
and psychotherapist for the NHS, attached to a number of GP practices,
and I had a private practice at home. I also used to run a series of
one-day and weekend workshops focussing on self-awareness, emotional
well-being and personal growth.
I’ve established a private practice in the small, peaceful village
where I now live with my husband and dog. I offer one-to-one sessions
and couples counselling as well as offering counselling by telephone. My experience is in working with a broad range
of issues including:-
-
Stress, anxiety,
depression
-
Loss in its many
forms e.g. loss of health, identity, direction
-
Bereavement
-
Relationships
with self and others
-
Impact of life
change
-
Physical,
emotional & sexual abuse
-
Sexual
orientation
-
Low self esteem
and self confidence
I
am non-directive in my approach. I believe in the potential for change
and healing within a therapeutic relationship that is non-judgemental
and based on trust, respect, acceptance and a genuine willingness to
understand.
